About Me
My Story: Leocadia Wanjira
I am a Kenyan-American first-year student at Agnes Scott College, pursuing a major in Creative Writing and a minor in Philosophy. Throughout my life, I have consistently been drawn to reading and writing as a way to interact with the world and express myself, and I aim to depict this clearly with my past accomplishments and future aspirations. I participated in verse-speaking (poetry) competitions and was the president and secretary of the Young Authors club in my high school. I won first place for poetry in a national writing competition in Kenya that aimed to bring awareness to issues of climate change and the destruction of nature, which I am passionate about. Something I always try to work towards is incorporating my values and worldview into my work, by letting my voice be heard through issues or concepts I feel strongly about. I have also worked closely with a middle-school student who needed guidance in English and Math, making good use of my ability to teach through volunteering. I plan to get my Master's in Creative Writing and I am considering pursuing teaching. As a way of preparing my path into the literary universe, I have proof-read two books of professional authors, helping them in the editing process and providing detailed feedback from my perspective. Apart from activities to do with writing, I also enjoy playing the piano, baking, bike-riding, and crocheting! As a multi-cultural person and someone who enjoys the art of language, I look forward to the further ways in which I will use writing to connect with people.
